Grandmaster Leung Jan
An old painting (top) depicting Grandmaster Leung Jan or Doctor Jan in one of his many challenge fights.
Some say that he defeated more than 300 fighters from other styles and was awarded the title of "Wing Chun Kuen Wong" or The Fighting King of the Wing Chun Fist. It is said that he called his pharmacy Hang Chai Tong, after a great healer called Wu Tung Feng who lived in an apricot forest and healed thousands of people for free during the Three Kingdoms era (220-265 AD).
Leung Jan's popularity never faded and even now he is classed as a cult hero in Chinese history. Actor Bryan Leung plays the role of Doctor Leung Jan in the 1978 film "Warriors Two" (middle).
Grandmaster Leung Jan Had two sons, Leung Bik and Leung Chun, both of whom he taught Wing Chun. He also taught Chan Wah Shun.
He retired back to his native village of Kulo and eventually died at the age of 73.
Picture below is of Grandmaster Leung Jan's house in Foshan.
