Coach Ged Kennerk pictured here with his teacher, Sifu David Peterson
Driven by his passion for Wing Chun, Ged Kennerk has been teaching Wing Chun in Stockport since the mid 1990s. He established Stockport Wing Chun Academy in 2002, thus enabling him to teach the Wong Shun Leung method to a number of dedicated students. The club has allowed Ged to continually improve both his skills and the skills of his students. Ged has extensive training in western boxing, Judo, Karate and Wing Chun Gung-fu, going back more than 20 years. He has also worked in the security industry throughout the greater Manchester area, gaining real life experience that has added greatly to his ability to both use and teach practical fighting skills .
In order to maintain the highest possible standards, Ged Kennerk has travelled to Australia to train directly under his teacher, David Peterson, at the Melbourne Chinese Martial Arts Club (MCMAC), as well as inviting Peterson to teach both he and his students in the United Kingdom on a number of occasions since 2003.
Ged is Sifu Peterson's most senior student in the UK; his knowledge, understanding and top tier coaching skills are in constant demand, here in the UK and various Combat Science affiliated WSL schools across Europe. Ged also works very closely with his close friend Ernie Barrios (ABMVT) to develop and fine tune his Ving Tsun. This very progressive and clean way of training has transformed Geds Ving Tsun to an incredible level and he is now the top UK and Europe Coach for ABMVT International.
"We believe that not all Wing Chun is the same and that if one examines his or her own training by asking if it is truly simple, direct and efficient, it may well be that it just doesn’t measure up. Put quite simply, if you are not attacking your opponent’s attack, it’s not Wing Chun; if you have to think, it’s already too late! That is the essence of the Wong Shun Leung Method of Wing Chun Gung-Fu."
